Journey

Sophie Hulshoff (b. 1998) is a Dutch pianist whose artistic journey combines classical tradition with a vibrant contemporary perspective. She began her piano studies in the Netherlands under the guidance of the highly esteemed professor Frank van de Laar, and completed her Bachelor’s degree at the conservatory in Rotterdam. Seeking new artistic impulses, she moved to Brussels to pursue a Master’s degree under the direction of pianist Julien Libeer. Having graduated in 2025, she now embarks on her professional path with great enthusiasm, dedicated to sharing music with audiences in meaningful and imaginative ways.

For Sophie, performing is a way to build connections; between the music and the listener, between history and the present moment… Every performance is shaped by a deep respect for tradition, combined with a curiosity to explore new interpretations and contexts.

Piano concertos

In November 2021, Sophie performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor with the Leiden Sinfonietta, conducted by Joost Geevers, at the Vredeskerk in Leiden (The Netherlands).

In April 2023, she made her debut in Rome, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C minor, K. 491 with the Roma Tre Orchestra, under the direction of Jan Latham-Koenig. This project opened with a performance of Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, together with members of the orchestra, setting a warm and intimate tone for an unforgettable concert evening.

Chamber music

Chamber music is a central part of Sophie’s work as a musician. She treasures the collaborative process of creating new ideas and sound-worlds together with other musicians.

Her partnership with soprano Sabra El Bahri Khatri began at the Grachtenfestival 2023 in Amsterdam, where Sabra was nominated for the festival prize. Their debut concert took place in the beautiful Hotel Krasnapolsky, and their collaboration continued with performances such as the Weekend of Romantic Music in Rotterdam, featuring a rich and expressive Romantic program.

In 2026, Sophie will launch a new project with renowned cellist Sevak Avanesyan. She maintains a profound interest in the cello repertoire, taking pleasure in uncovering diverse works and arrangements.
